Title of the Piece: kind of a crap-suck week Painted at 1:56 p.m. on 2007-11-02
Things that have happened this week: I learned that gut instinct is real. I came home on Tuesday, noticed Gretl’s lights were on and gave her a call b/c I knew she wasn’t home yet. Sensing something was odd, I went up and knocked on her door (she didn’t answer her phone). I thought her door looked a little off, but I have a good imagination, so I blew it off. Later, when I was making dinner, I sensed I should check on her place, just in case… I’d hate for her to come home and find her place a mess. I call her again later, she answers. She, too, sensed something odd about her lights being left on, though sometimes she accidentally hits the kitchen light switch when she leaves (it was her bedroom light that was on). She comes over, hangs out, goes home. 30 seconds later she’s back downstairs at my place- someone had indeed broken in. They nabbed her laptop and camera and went through her top drawer. There were no visible signs of forced entry, until the cops came and pointed out that the jerk came in the middle door. He had to break through our common door and then got into Gretl’s in the hallway. The common factor- neither had the deadbolts locked. One neighbor never locks the common door deadbolt, so it was easy for him to just pop it open. Gretl’s deadbolt has never worked, so luck of the draw for the guy that one of 6 doors was accessible to him. I think Gretl is doing OK. She’s mad about her pictures being gone, but thankfully she has insurance. Seriously, when is our luck going to get better? Sheesh. Our neighbors are all really nice, so we’re working fast and together to get our gates fixed since you can currently reach over the top and let yourself in. Thank you cheap developer! Second round of fun- our brother is apparently checking into rehab tonight. We don’t know any details yet. I do, however know that my dad’s wife emailed Gretl and let her know, but failed to mention it in her email to me. So dumb. Gretl called our dad and he confirmed that he’s taking him in tonight. He’ll call us later and let us know what’s going on. Harrumph, my brother should’ve known better, especially since our uncle was pretty much a lifelong drug user and OD’d and died last year. Sheesh, this better work, I can’t have a Lindsay in my family. ha Starts with a Brush then comes a stroke. Squeaky - 2009-06-17 |
